Location
Gangtok which means 'lofty hills' is the capital of famous North Indian state Sikkim. It is located in the Shivalik Hills of the eastern Himalayan ranges at an altitude of 1,437 m above the sea level. Gangtok is a charming hill resort which is blessed with abundance of natural bounty. Menam Hill: Situated at an altitude of 10300 ft above the sea level the Menam hill offers the breathtaking view of the scenic beauty of the Kanchenjunga Hills and its surrounding ranges. On a bright sunny day one can even clearly see the Plains of Bengal spanning across Kalimpong, and Darjeeling Hills in the south.
Pemayangtse Monastery: It is one of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim established by Lhatsun Chempo the Lama who had performed the consecration ceremony of the first Chogyal of Sikkim. The monastery offers the stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and its surroundings.
Nathula: It is a famous mountain pass perched at an altitude of 14,200 ft. above the sea level. It is located at a distance of 56 km from Gangtok and is dotted with myriads of alpine flora and fauna. Its serene ambience makes it one of the major tourist attractions among the visitors.
Tashi Viewpoint: It is a famous picnic jaunt that offer hypnotizing and mesmerizing beauty of Kanchenjunga and Mt. Siniolchu which is a delight for the soar eyes and battered soul.
Phurchachu Hot Springs: It is also a major tourist attraction among the visitors as these hot springs have curative and spiritual powers by virtue of the Cave of the Occult fairies.
Do Dhrul Chorten or Stupa: Built in 1945 under the guidance of late venerable Trulshi Rimpoche, head of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism is the place of worship for the Buddhist and Tibetan people.
Ganesh Tok: Situated on the Gangtok - Nathula Road, the beautiful Ganesh temple is sitting on a tiny hillock is adjacent to the Sikkim Government nursery in East Sikkim. It is an important place for the Hindu devotees.
How to Reach
By Air: Nearest airport is Bagdogra (Siliguri) in the state of West Bengal, which is 124 km from Gangtok. Bagdogra has regular flights from Calcutta and Delhi.
Rail: The two closest railway stations are Siliguri at a distance of 114 km and New Jalpaiguri at 125 km connecting with Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India. Hill Station in Gangtok
