Iruppu Falls Coorg: Orignating from the Brahmagiri range the river Lakshmana Theertha plunges down from the height of 170 ft. forming the Iruppu Water Falls. Iruppu Falls is a sacred spot in South Kodagu. According to a legend Ram and Lakshman passes through this way while searching Sita. Ram asked Laksmanto bring some drinking water for him then Lakshman shot an arrow into Brahmagiri bringing into being Lakshman-Teertha. Located near by the falls is the famous Rameshwara Temple that attracts large number of devotees during the festival of Shivaratri. According to a belief devotees bath in these falls on Shivaratri to absolve themselves of their sins. Before taking a dip in the Lakshmana Teertha it is customary to pay the respects at Shiva Temple. The temple remains closed between 1 pm to 6Pm. Located beside the Nagarhole National Park, the Iruppu falls presents a majestic sight to its visitors. During the monsoon, the Iruppu Falls swell with seasonal rainfall, making it the best time in the year to visit!
