Nagarhole National Park Coorg: The place derives its name from the winding river Nagarhole which means “Snake River” which flows through the park. It has been recently renamed as Rajiv Gandhi National Park. Nagarhole National Park is blessed with abundance of flora and fauna. Those who love nature must visit this place which provides them an excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing. Both trekking and going by private vehicles is allowed, with prior permission. Huts have been built for those who wish to stay in the wilds as well.
The Bagamandala Temple Coorg: The Bagamandala is a pilgrimage in Coorg. At this place river Cauvery is joined by two tributaries, the Kannika and Sujyoti Rivers. The temple here is built in Kerala style and has smaller shrines dedicated to various Gods. It is about 40 Km from Madikeri. It is a common practice at this pilgrimage to take a dip in the Sangam and perform rituals to their ancestors. During Tula Sankramana which falls on 17th or 18th October a large number of people gather at Talakaveri the birthplace of Kaveri to take a holy dip.
The Omkareshwara Temple Coorg: Omkareshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva is 200 years old temple built by Lingarajendra in 1820.The temple is situated in Madikeri town and has both Islamic and Gothic style architecture. It has four minarets around it and a dome in the center similar to a Muslim Masjid. According to a legend Linga Raja killed a Brahmin who refused to marry his daughter to him. On killing the Brahmin he acquired Brahma Hatya Dosha and to get rid of him he brought a Shivalinga from Kashi and installed here. The Shivalinga was named as “Omkareshwara”. Among the many Shivalingas in Kashi five are considered the most sacred, and Omkareshwara in Coorg is one of them.
