The population of Delhi is expected to reach 230 lakh by 2021; a recent study has revealed (a rise of almost 40 per cent) in just two decades. The rise of Delhi’s population is mainly due to migration from other states. It’s the reason of being Delhi an over populated and an extremely polluted modern city. New Delhi is recognized as one of the nine districts of National Capital territory (NCT) of Delhi.
With approximately 11,954,217 people dwelling in New Delhi according to Census 2007, Delhi is the second largest metropolitan city next to Mumbai. We can further subdivide the total population as 76, 07234 are male and 62, 43273 female; with literacy rate of 81.82% approximately. Female sex ratio is 821 per 1000 males.
The rise of Delhi’s population is largely due to the migrated people to the capital in search of better living standard. The total density of Delhi is 9340 per sq km. It’s a very pathetic scene that there exists hardly any residential space left in the city not occupied by citizens and dwellers. As per the stats, Delhi's population has enlarged manifold in the past few years.
National Capital territory (NCT) came into existence from the month of January 1997 when the Capital was divided into Nine revenue Districts.
