Location
Corbett lies in the foothills of the
Himalayas in the upper terai region
of the state of Uttaranchal. At a
distance of 115 km from the district
headquarters at Nainital, it covers
a total area of 1318.54 sq km.
Sight Seeing
Corbett Tiger Reserve is the first
and one of the finest tiger reserves
of India. Established in the year
1936 as Hailey National Park, the
park was renamed in the year 1957
in honor of the hunter and photographer
Major Jim Corbett who had spent major
part of his life in this area and
contributed in establishment of the
this park. Corbett is most famous
for the species of large cats particularly
the Tiger. The Corbett Park was the
first park to be designated as the
Project Tiger Reserve in 1973. But
spotting of tigers is a matter of
luck. Other animal species seen at
the park are the large Elephants,
Gharial; a long snouted fish-eating
Crocodile, Maggar; a large marsh crocodile,
Jackal, Wild Boar, Deer like Chital,
Hog Deer and Sambar, Rhesus and common
Langur. Avifauna includes Pied Kingfisher,
crested serpent Eagle, Pallas's fishing
eagle and Himalayan greyheaded fishing
Eagle.

Pantnagar at a distance of 50 km from
Corbett is the nearest airport.
By Rail: Ramnagar is the nearest
railway station at a distance of 51
km from Corbett.
By Road: Corbett is well connected
with all the major cities and towns
like Dhikala, Nainital, Udham Singh
Nagar, Ramnagar, Ranikhet, Delhi and
