Government Botanical Garden: Situated just 2 km from Ooty, The Botanical Garden is the must visit place from Ooty. Sprawling across 22 acres of land the garden was laid out by Marquis of Tweedale in 1847 who was then the Governor of Madras. A fossil tree trunk of 20 million years is preserved over here. The garden is a must visit place for nature lovers. Annual flower show held in the month of May is the major crowd puller. The garden is maintained by Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department.
Lake View: Situated at a distance of 1 km the Ooty Lake is the pride of Blue hills. Formed by Mr. John Sullivan in 1824, the Lake View is spreading across the area of 65 acres. Earlier on this lake was use for fishing only. Later on the Tourism Department of Tamil Nadu took the possession of the lake for pleasure boating facilities in 1973. Other added attractions of Ooty Lake are a mini train and an amusement park that is visited by large groups of people.
Doddabetta: Situated at a distance of 8 km from Ooty, Doddabetta is the highest point in Nilgiris at the elevation of 2,623 m above the sea level. It is the junction of Western and Eastern Ghats and offer beautiful vistas of Nilgiri Hills Range. It offers the magnificent panoramic views of the landscape and the whole of the district through the Telescope House run by T.T.D.C. The peak offers the spectacular sunset from this point.
Pykara: Situated at a distance of 21 km from Ooty, Pykara Lake is located on the Ooty-Mysore Road. It is the largest river in the district and is considered to be sacred by Todas. Rises from Mukurthi Peak it passes down majestically in a series of cascades and last with falls of 55m and 61 m which are known as Pykara Falls. It offers its visitors good opportunities for boating and is the favorite picnic location for the nature lovers.
Kalhatty Falls: Just 13 km from Ooty is situated the breathtakingly beautiful Kalhatty Falls on the Sigur Ghat Road. This is a beautiful picnic jaunt where the water falls from the height of 120 feet. Buses are available to reach Kalhatty falls which is well connected by a motorable Road.
