Location
Ranikhet lies along a ridge at an
altitude of 1,830 m above the sea
level. It is situated in the district
of Almora in Kumaon Division of Uttaranchal.
Sight Seeing
Once a British Cantonment, Ranikhet
is now houses the Kumaon Regiment.
It is covered with pine and oak forests
and offers snow view from its northern
side. Hera Khan Temple and Ashram
is near the Chilianaula village 4
km from the Sadar Bazaar. The marble
temple with a garden is built at the
wishes of the Hindu saint, Hera Khan,
who died in 1984. Jhula Devi Temple
is 7 km from Ranikhet. Uphat is 6
km from Sadar Bazaar on Almora Road
and has the highest 9 hole golf courses
in India. The Kalika Temple and Government
Forest Nursery is beyond the golf
course. Chaubatia, 10 km from the
Sadar Bazaar, was originally a sanatorium
for British troops. It is now made
the Government Fruit Garden and Research
Station, where almost 200 varieties
of fruit are grown. At a distance
of 3 km walk from Chaubatia is the
artificial lake of Bhaludam.
