Agriculture plays a predominant role in contributing the economy of Himachal Pradesh. About 93% of the population of Himachal Pradesh depends on agriculture. Barley is mostly cultivated in Shimla regions. Several of vegetables are also cultivated in Himachal Pradesh, potato, ginger, soyabean, oilseeds, and pulses and mushrooms are famous among them. Fruit cultivation is proved to be the economic benefit. The state is popular as the 'Apple State of India' for its producing of large-scale of fruits. Apple is the dominant part of agriculture of Himachal Pradesh. Farming comes with the maximum income, fruit cultivating in the state is fetching over Rs.300 crore annually.
