Himachal Pradesh is one of the famous northern states of India. It is bordered with Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The economy of the state is much flourished and is highly dependent on three main sources that include tourism, agriculture and hydroelectric power. Also known as Dev Bhoomi the hill station of Himachal Pradesh is situated in the western Himalayas covering an area of about 55, 673 km with the total population of 61, 77248 million according to the census of 2001. The population of the state is distributed in such a manner that it has a density of 93 persons per sq. km. Out of total population of Himachal Pradesh 9.79% resides in urban places where as the rest of population reside in rural places. The state of Himachal Pradesh has the highest proportion of Hindu population along with the sizable population of Tibetans. The other religions that form the small percentages are Buddhists Sikhs and Lahaulis of Lahaul and Spiti region. Sikh population mainly resides in towns and cities and form 10% of total population in Una district adjoining the state of Punjab and 17% in Shimla. The Buddhists who are the natives and tribal from Lahaul and Spiti form the 60% of population while the Kinnaur the refugees from Tibet form 40% of the population.
