Bhandhavgarh is a fascinating town in Madhya Pradesh. This place has great and interesting history and mythology of nation. There are many magnificent forts in Bhandavgarh have never failed to attract the tourists of the entire globe. According to the Hindu mythology, during the era of Lord Rama and Hanumana, two monkeys created the between India and Lanka to vanquish the demon king, Ravan. It is believed Lord Rama and Hanuman used the fort in Bhandhavgarh on their journey back to their kingdom from Lanka. Latter, Lord Rama handed over this fort to his brother Lakshmana. He was later popularly known as "Bandhavdhish", lord of the fort.
Presently the fort is owned by Maharaja of Rewa. You can witness the "brahmi" inscription that dates back to the 1st century BC. You can admire this fascinating inscription in the northern area of the fort into sandstone. Bhandhavgarh was ruled by the Chandela kings of bundelkhand. They are also famous for the Khajuraho Temples that was built by them. In the 12th century, the Baghela Kings started their rule. Till 1617, Bandavgarh was the capital of this dynasty. Later it was shifted to Rewa. It is 120 km to the North of Bandhavgarh.
