Bharatpur is a fascinating town named after Bharat, brother of Lord Rama. Other brother Laxman is the family deity of the erstwhile royal family of Bharatpur. You can see engraved name 'Laxman' on the emblems, arms, and seals of the town.
It was believed that Lord Aditya founded the city and the fort of Bharatpur in the early 17th century. This place was established as a state in the Mewat region to the south of Delhi by the Majesty Aditya. The capital of the region was at Deeg. Well knowned leaders like Raja Ram, Gokula, Churaman and Badan Singh tried to unite the Jats together and moulded them into a force to be reckoned with. Maharaja Suraj Mal. Maharaja Suraj Mal was a brave and the state's greatest ruler. He formed a formidable force in the region. He took over this magnificent city, Bharatpur from Khemkaran, son of Rustam. Later, he established the fascinating city of Bharatpur, as the capital of his state. For the safety of the region he fortified the city by erecting massive wall around it.
