Kanha is a famous place, which got its name from kanhar. Kanhar is the local term for the clayey soil in the valley bottoms. Some peoples also believe that the name kanha is named after a holy man; Kanva once lived there in a forest village. The rich fertile land in Kanha provide the perfect vegetation for the local areas. The main four principal vegetation types in Kanha are moist deciduous forest, valley meadow, dry deciduous forest, and plateau meadow. The total area of Kanha is 1945 sq. Km. The park consists of a core area of 940 square km that is surrounded by a buffer zone of 1,005 square km.
