Jharkhand means “The Land of Forests”. It is one of the eastern states of India carved out of southern part of Bihar on 15th November 2000. Spreading across the area of 74,677 sq. km, the state is bounded by Uttar Pradesh in North, Chhattisgarh in west, Orissa to the south and West Bengal to the east. Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand. Most of the state lies on the Chota Nagpur Plateau. Koel, Damodar, Brahmani and Subarnarekha Rivers drenched the Jharkhand state. About 40% state is covered with forests. Although Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism are also practiced by the people of Jaharkhand. Hindi is the main speaking language of the people of Jharkhand.
