Extends from the latitudes 29.30° north to 32.32° North and longitudes 73.55° east to 76.50° East Punjab is surrounded by Pakistan on the west, Jammu and Kashmir on south, Himachal Pradesh on northeast and Haryana and Rajasthan on the south. Punjab is characterizes as fertile plain as the presence of a large number of rivers in its way. The southeast region is semi-arid covered by desert landscape. Sprawling over a total geographical area of 50,362 sq. km Punjab occupies 1.54 % of country’s total geographical area. The average elevation is 300 m from the sea level, Punjab is known for an exciting geography and typography.
Located between the great systems of the Indus and Ganges rivers, Punjab is a state of alluvial plain. Punjab's arid southern border edges on the Thar and Irrigated by canals; the Siwalik Range arises harshly in the north of the state. The regions of Punjab are divided into three distinct types on the basis of soil. South-Western Punjab, Central Punjab and Eastern Punjab are the names of the regions. Punjab falls under seismic zones II, III, and IV, there lays variation in soil profile because of the regional climatic differences. Low Damage Risk Zone is there in Zones of II and III while zone IV referred to as high damage risk zone.
