Transportation of Punjab is very smooth and effective. Transport department came into being and working smoothly from 1948. There remain two wings in the Provincial Transport Controller Punjab, namely commercial and non-commercial. The non-commercial wing was put under the control of the State Transport Commissioner in 1969.
Objectives
- Transportation of Punjab is mainly to regulate traffic on roads for safety and discipline
- All type of taxes, levied on vehicles under the Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1924
Mini Buses:
Mini Buses are the effective and swiftest means of transportation in Punjab. A "Mini Bus" is a stage carriage whose wheel base does not exceed 137 inches. Mini bus can carry not more than 30 passengers besides the driver and the conductor. While yielding permits for operation on routes, the use of mini buses is permissible on the basis of passenger road transport.
Road Tax: Road Tax at the rate of Rs 650 per seat per year.
