Various modes of communication weather it is newspaper, postal service or telecommunication all plays an important role in dissemination of news in the state. Newspapers in Sikkim are published in both Napali and English.
Some of the biggest newspapers in Sikkim are distributed not only in Sikkim but also in the regions around Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri. Established in 1994, Gangtok Times is one of the oldest English news weekly of Sikkim with a circulation of more than 3500 copies in and around neighboring regions like Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Silliguri. Sikkim Express is also one of the oldest newspapers of the state with an unparallel track record of 28 years. Many Nepali Newspapers at sikkim are also circulated on regular basis. Some of them are daily while the others are weekly. Some of them are Sikkim Dhawani, Aajo Ko Sikkim, Hamro Prajashakti, Bikalpa etc. The Telephone density at Sikkim is 6.27 connections per 100 people which is one of the highest in the country. BSNL has recently launched 3G standards services defined by the International Telecommunication Union in Guwahati, Gangtok, Agartala and Shillong.
