Sikkim, situated in the eastern Himalayas is the second smallest state of India after Goa. The state share borders with West Bengal to its south. It shares international borders with Nepal in the west, China to the north and Bhutan in the southeast. Sikkim is now fastly developing a major tourist destination .Visitors can reach sikkim by all modes of transportation.
By Air: Sikkim does not have any Airport or Railway station as it is a rough terrain. The first airport of the state is going to be ready in near future in Pakyong that is 30 Km from Gangtok. The closest airport is Bagdora Airport situated in Siliguri west Bengal. A regular helicopter service run by Sikkim Helicopter Service connects Gangtok to Bagdogra which takes about 30 minutes. Baldogra is connected to other major cities of India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
By Rail: Sikkim doesn’t have any Railway Station. The nearest railhead is Jalpaiguri near Siliguri which is connected to Gangtok by road. Jalpaiguri boasts an extensive network of rails that connects to the northeastern cities of India.
By Road: Sikkim has a good network of roads. One can enter Sikkim through northern areas of West Bengal, Darjeeling Kalimpong and Siliguri which connects it to the state capital Gangtok. National Highway 31A and 31 together link Siliguri to Gangtok. The Sikkim National Transport runs bus and truck services. Privately run bus, tourist taxi and jeep services ply throughout Sikkim and also connect it to Siliguri.
