Uttar Pradesh is the ultimate travel destination counted as the populous state of India. 16.4 per cent of the country’s total population resides in Uttar Pradesh. Covering 9.0 per cent of the country’s geographical area, Uttar Pradesh is the fourth largest state in India. Its geographical area consisting of 2, 94,411 square kms comprising of 83 districts, 901 development blocks and 112,804 inhabited villages.

473 people per square km can be counted as the density of the population of the state. The states total population was 8.8 crores in 1971. It shows a sudden hike to 11.1 crores in 1981 and then reported to be 13.9 crores in 1991. The increase in population in these two decades was 25 per cent. The Total Fertility Rate of the State is 3.8 whereas the Infant Mortality Rate is 69. Maternal Mortality Ratio is 517 (SRS 2001 - 03) which are higher than the National average.
