On the 8th November, 2000, Uttarakhand became the full fledged state of India. Earlier known as Uttaranchal the state is carved out from Uttar Pradesh and became the 27th state of Republic of India. With the capital city of Dehradun, the cities of Uttarakhand either belongs to the Garhwal or the Kumaon regions and thus the people of this region are known as Garhwali or Kumaoni. Uttarakhand is the part of the Himalayan ranges beginning from the foothills of the Shivalik to greater Himalayas that makes it a very rich state in terms of natural bounties.
